From July 19th to the 21st, the National Basketball Players Association will be holding a Technology Summit for current and former players in San Francisco.

The NBPA Technology Summit will provide current and former NBA players with the following:

  • Educational content and presentations from executives of major media and technology companies;
  • Site visits to several media and technology companies in Silicon Valley;
  • Networking opportunities with senior executives and influencers;
  • Workshops designed to identify opportunities for players to pursue both during and after their NBA careers.
  • Among the participating companies are Andreessen Horowitz, Jawbone and SV Angel.

“A key part of our mission at the NBPA is to help players maximize their opportunities on and off the court, and prepare for life after basketball,” said Roger Mason, Jr., Deputy Executive Director of the NBPA. “Emerging technology, such as wearables and new media content platforms, directly impact our players every day, so we felt the time was right to provide a stage for them to gather, share ideas, get more educated and interact with some of the leaders in these growing fields.”

2015 NBA Finals MVP Andre Iguodala, a member of the NBPA Executive Committee, has been deeply engaged with the Bay Area media and tech community since joining the Golden State Warriors in 2013. He has become a leader for the NBPA working with many influential technology companies to help educate and develop new opportunities for players.

“Following the media and tech companies over the last ten years, I have learned a great deal about business development, new opportunities and the increasing growth and importance in the media and tech space,” Iguodala said. “The close relationships and experiences I have developed with many of the CEO’s have allowed me to strengthen my knowledge about tech and digital media, and apply many of the same principles to my game, like team building and leadership. The upcoming Tech Summit presents a tremendous opportunity for my fellow NBPA members to receive valuable information and knowledge about this evolving space.”

The National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) is the union for current professional basketball players in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Established in 1954, the NBPA mission is to ensure that the rights of NBA players are protected and that every conceivable measure is taken to assist players in maximizing their opportunities and achieving their goals, both on and off the court.
